29th Annual Economist Government Roundtable
During his participation in the panel discussion “Single capital market: much more than a market?” at the 29th Annual Economist Government Roundtable, Mr. Gikas Hardouvelis, Chairman of the Board of National Bank of Greece, emphasized that “Europe saves a lot but its savings, instead of financing higher domestic investment, are exported and finance countries with current account deficits like the US. The European Investment and Savings Union aims to rectify this disequilibrium. A well-functioning single market would raise investment opportunities and facilitate the desired increase in investment.”
This perspective sheds light on a critical economic paradox in the Eurozone and highlights the transformative role of a unified capital market in promoting internal investment, growth, and competitiveness.
