On Thursday, 7 May 2026, the second sponsorship agreement of €100 million was signed between the Hellenic Republic and the four systemic banks for the renovation of an additional 238 schools this year. Last year, through a donation of €100 million as well, 430 schools of all levels across the country were renovated and handed over to the educational community in September 2026.
This year’s sponsorship round brings the total contribution to date to €200 million, shared equally by the four systemic banks, and with the addition of this year’s schools, a total of 668 schools nationwide will have been renovated, benefiting more than 150,000 students.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Bank of Greece, Gikas Hardouvelis, stated:

We are expanding our reach to hundreds of additional schools, creating a better school environment for thousands more students across our country. And a better environment greatly enhances the participation of all students in the educational process, the assimilation of knowledge, and the development of critical thinking. It helps equip them with the tools for a better life, and ultimately for a future Greece that is even more productive.”
