Hardouvelis, Dimitrios Malliaropulos, Richard Priestley<br \/>\n<em>Journal: Journal of Business, January 2006, vol\u00a079, no. 1<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Abstract:\u00a0The launch of the single\u00a0currency in Europe in\u00a0January 1999 was\u00a0preceded by a period\u00a0of regulatory harmonization,\u00a0convergence\u00a0in bond yields and\u00a0inflation rates, and strict\u00a0fiscal policy across the\u00a0Eurozone countries. We\u00a0examine whether the\u00a01990s also were characterized\u00a0by increased\u00a0stock market integration.\u00a0The results indicate\u00a0that, as \u00a0forward\u00a0interest differentials\u00a0benchmarked against\u00a0Germany and inflation\u00a0differentials benchmarked\u00a0against the three\u00a0best performing states\u00a0shrank toward zero,\u00a0stock markets converged\u00a0toward full\u00a0integration.
